3 Davao schools to compete in 11th Nat'l UniGames PDF Print E-mail

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/Aug 1) ---Three schools from this city have confirmed their participation in this year's 11th National University Games slated October 23 to 29 in Bacolod City. These are Holy Cross of Davao College, University of Mindanao and Ateneo De Davao University.

The three, however, have yet to decide on the events they will be competing. The annual University Games has a line up of 11-events.

UM sports coordinator Engr. Joaquin Sarabia said they have yet to receive the invitation that's why “we are not yet decided on the events”.

Holy Cross chessmen's team under National Master Prospero Cruz won the chess title two year's ago, making the first Mindanao-based school to win a title.

Also competing in the games are top University and Collegiate teams from Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.
UniGames eligibility rules bar "athletes who are active members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines" - Philippine Air force, Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, Philippine National Police, from participating.

Last year, UM took part in football men, basketball women and chess men and women while Ateneo participated in basketball men, volleyball men and football men.
