AMPATUAN, Maguindanao (MindaNews / 20 February) – Police killed five suspected holduppers during a pursuit operation in Barangay Kauran here Saturday night.
Colonel Jibin Bongcayao, Maguindanao police director, said the suspects did not stop at the checkpoint set up by the police in Sitio Midpalao, Barangay Kauran and instead traded shots with them shortly after 7 p.m.
He said the gunmen first robbed a roadside carenderia in Barangay Kauran of its earnings and fled on board a box-type multicab. The store owner reported to the police who immediately set up a checkpoint.
“They refused to peacefully surrender, they traded shots unfortunately,” Bongcayao said.
He identified one of the fatalities as Miharsis Manonggal. The sixth suspect managed to escape.
Police recovered two cal. 45 pistol from the suspects and the cash they robbed from carenderia owner Emma Milton.
