VP Duterte pays respects to fallen soldiers in Maguindanao
Vice President Sara Duterte paid her respects Monday to four soldiers killed in an ambush by suspected Islamic militants in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur last week.
The remains of the fallen soldiers lie in wake at Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division.
Duterte consoled with the families of the soldiers, telling them they were “heroes for offering their lives for our flag.” She gave the families of the slain cash assistance.
The Islamic State-aligned Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in retaliation to the continued Army offensive against them.
Duterte and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao separately extended cash assistance to the families of the fallen soldiers.
Land title issued to AFP camp in Iligan City
The Register of Deeds awarded a land ownership title to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for its 9.8-hectare military camp in Barangay Maria Cristina, Iligan City
Brig. General Anthon Abrina , commander of the Army’s 2nd Mechanized Brigade, said the recognition that ownership of the land belongs to the AFP would deter encroachment by squatters.
Abrina said they would construct eight-meter-wide pathways around the camp perimeter for jogging and recreational use of the soldiers and residents.
The land titling of the camp started in 2014 and took ten years before the Register of Deeds finally decided to issue one.
