Magnitude 5.5. quake hits Siargao

DAVAO CITY — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck General Luna town in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte at 1:26pm Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The temblor’s epicenter was located 70 kilometers southeast of General Luna and had a depth of 11 km.

Intensity II was felt in Surigao City.

Phivolcs said it expects no damage.

At 2:04pm on Friday, Phivolcs said a magnitude 5 quake occurred 67 km southeast of General Luna.

The agency said it was an aftershock of the 5.

5 quake.

Phivolcs recorded 27 other quakes in General Luna on Friday with magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 4.4. (MindaNews)
