ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/19 November) – Suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits seized a government official late Monday in the province of Sulu, police and military officials disclosed.
Kidnapped was Jesus Cabillin, 60, the provincial treasurer of Sulu, according to provincial police director Senior Supt. Abraham Orbito.
Orbito said Cabillin was seized 6:50 p.m. Monday at the capitol site in Barangay Bangkal, Patikul town.
He said the victim was taking a rest in his sleeping quarters when the kidnappers arrived and seized him at gunpoint.
The police official said the gunmen forced Cabillin to board a Tamaraw jeep and sped towards the direction of Barangay Danag, Patikul.
Joint Task Force Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Jose Johriel Cenabre said the kidnappers are followers of Abu Sayyaf leaders Julli Ikit and Kausar Sawadjaan.
Cenabre, who is also the 2nd Marine Brigade commander, said Marines and police units have been deployed to go after the bandits. (MindaNews)
