At least 200 swimmers across Mindanao will be seeing action in the swimfest which is one of the special events of the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA), the governing body of the sport swimming in the country. Event coordinator Darren Evangelista said PASA has granted a one-time Special Event Pass (SEP) for this invitational swimming competition. The two-day event, which will feature a total of 10 age-group’s, is open to all PASA and non-PASA swimmers. Categorized age-groups are 6 years-old and under, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 years old and up. Specially-crafted medals are up for grabs in the event organized by Evangelista Aqua Swim Club. Evangelista said the objective of this competition is to strengthen the development of Mindanao Sports Program, particularly the swimming program in our provinces. “This event is for the competitive swimmers of different schools in Mindanao,” he added. There are numerous swimming clubs Mindanao including the over-achieving Davao Coastland Swimming Team of Davao City, Dajangas Torpedos of Gen. Santos City, Iligan Swim Club of Iligan City, Aqua Knights Swim Club, Blue Sharks Swim Club and Cagayan de Oro Swim Club of Cagayan De Oro City. Zamboanga City-based Blue Tanker Hammerhead Swim Club and Zamboanga West Aqua Swim Club, Dolphin Angel Swim Club of Koronadal, Evangelista Aqua Swim Club, Gensan Warrios Swim Club, Plunge and Swim Club, Polomolok Aqua Sprinters Swim Club of South Cotabato and Tangub Aquaflyers Swim Club of Tangub City.
