ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/01 January) – Six people were killed while six others, including two children, were wounded in a New Year’s Eve party in Basilan province.
The incident took place at around 10 p.m. Tuesday at the compound of Manuel Cisneros, a militiaman, at Zone 6, Barangay Tumahubong, Sumisip municipality, Capt. Jefferson Somera, information officer of the 1st Infantry Division, said.
Somera said the victims were attending a party when an improvised bomb exploded.
He said the victims had just arrived from a nearby church, where they attended a New Year’s Eve mass.
Somera said they are still conducting investigation as to how the improvised bomb was brought into Cisneros’ compound.
The Basilan Police Provincial Office identified five of the slain victims as Rey Limbin, Elbert Gomoba, Kitarul Kaddik, Leniebel Cisneros, and Lourdes Ablong.
Three of the six wounded were identified as Rining Dingcong, Janice Dingcong, and Jesa Dingcong.
The victims provided emergency medical treatment at the headquarters of the Army’s 64th Infantry Battalion in Sumisip and were later airlifted to the hospital. (MindaNews)
