Heavy rainfall triggers landslides in Davao de Oro

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 2 January) – Landslides due to heavy rains temporarily hampered the flow of traffic along the national highway at the Maragusan – Nabunturan Road in Davao de Oro province early morning Tuesday, 2 January.

A Facebook post by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office – Maragusan said the landslides occurred at 5:16 a.m. along barangays Katipunan, Tandik and Luzvimin, which rendered the road impassable to all kinds of vehicles.

But at 6:24 a.m., the road was declared passable for small vehicles and motorcycles.

Franz Irag, Office of the Civil Defense – Davao region operations head, confirmed the two landslides in Maragusan.[]


At around noontime, clearing operations were still on going, he said.[]


Irag said that there was no damage caused by the landslides in the province.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a yellow rainfall warning at 6:15 a.[]


m. Tuesday for most parts of Mindanao, which included Davao de Oro.

The advisory warned of heavy rains brought by easterlies.

Under the yellow rainfall advisory, there is an expected rainfall amount of 7.5 milliliters (ml) to 15 ml within one hour.
