KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 24 Aug) – The local government here released on Thursday P12.8 million as monthly pension to senior citizens during ceremonies at the city gymnasium, the City Information Office (CIO) said.
Mayor Joseph Evangelista led the distribution of the P1,500 social pension to each of the 8,578 senior citizens in the city.
Evangelista said the pension covers the months of July, August, and September. The release will continue until Sunday, he added.
He also tasked his staff at the City Mayor’s Office to prepare food and water to senior citizens while they are waiting for their turn to get their financial assistance.
The mayor deployed security personnel in the city gymnasium to ensure none of the senior citizens who received their monthly pensions would fall as victims to holduppers.
The indigent senior citizens come from the 40 barangays of the city, records from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) showed.
These residents, the mayor explained, had no retirement benefits from any company or monthly pension from the Government Service Insurance System or Social Security System.
The list of the senior citizens who need social pension from the government had been validated by the CSWDO, he stressed. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
