DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/ 19 April) — Wao in Lanao del Sur and Kalilangan town in Bukidnon have been placed under a state of calamity following the April 12 magnitude 6 earthquake that registered Intensity VII in these areas.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Kalilangan, which passed Resolution 2017-153 on Monday placing the town under a state of calamity said that as of April 17, the quake affected 190 families, 771 individuals and damaged 78 houses, 60 of them partially, 14 severely and four totally damaged.
The resolution said estimated damages had reached PhP 57,695,000 with more than half that amount or PhP 30 million due to the Sangguniang Bayan building that has been rendered unsafe and according to Mayor Omaradji Pizarro, has to be demolished in favor of a new structure . The Resolution noted that the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology declared the building as “unsafe.”
The town of Wao, Lanao del Sur, the epicenter of the April 12 quake, was also placed under a state of calamity on Monday through Resolution no. 20.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in its Situation Report No. 8 said a total of 869 houses were damaged in Wao and Kalilangan towns: 798 in Wao and 71 in Kalilangan, of which 52 were totally damagd — 49 in Wao and 3 in Kalilangan, and 817 partially damaged: 749 in Wao and 68 in Kalilangan.
Fourteen schools were also partially damaged, according to the NDRMMC report: nine in Wao and five in Kalilangan. (MindaNews)
