5,000 jobs up for grabs in Labor Day jobs fair in GenSan
Cano said 47 companies and recruitment agencies will offer local job placements and 30 for overseas deployments.
Citing the validated job orders received by the agency, he said a total of 3,456 overseas and 1,573 local job vacancies will be at stake during the fair.
The official said most of the overseas job vacancies are for household services based on data provided by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
For local jobs, he said, the listed vacancies are mostly for production workers, technical staff and administrative personnel.
“We have validated these employers and their job orders to ensure that they are legitimate and the jobs that they will offer really exist,” Cano said in a press conference.
In this year’s Labor Day celebration, he said the agency is “levelling up” the activities with the inclusion of the “business side.”
Dubbed “Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan” or TNK, he said the concept mainly integrates job opportunities with business and livelihood initiatives of DOLE, Department of Trade and Industry and other concerned agencies.
“For the first time, we will not only offer jobs to our stakeholders but the opportunity as well to access various government-led and supported business or entrepreneurial programs,” Cano said.
During the event, they will set up a “one-stop shop” for various services offered by their attached and partner agencies.
He said these include the POEA, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Social Security System, Technical Education Skills and Development Authority, Professional Regulation Commission, and Pag-Ibig Fund.
Cano said they will also hold a ceremonial turnover of around P13 million worth of livelihood grants that will benefit a total of 2,136 informal workers and former “undocumented” Overseas Filipino Workers.
He said the grants, which are in the form of starter kits for various small ventures, are funded under the Bottom-Up Budgeting or BUB program.
The beneficiaries are from this city; Bagumbayan town in Sultan Kudarat; Lake Sebu in South Cotabato; and Antipas, Banisilan and Kabacan in North Cotabato. (MindaNews)
