MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/09 March) — Suspected New People’s Army rebels burned seven vehicles and attacked a military detachment in Quezon town, Bukidnon at dawn on Sunday, a police official said Monday.
Insp. Jiselle Longakit, Bukidnon provincial police office public information officer, said in an interview over dxDB-Malaybalay that around 300 rebels put up a checkpoint along the highway in Barangay Palacapao around 4 a.m. Saturday and flagged down seven trucks carrying various food items.
Longakit said the rebels ordered the drivers and their aides to come down before they poured gasoline on the vehicles and burned them.
She said the guerrillas, who were reportedly led by one Richel Daguman alias Jasmine of NPA Front 6, also took food items from some of the vehicles before withdrawing.
She said the trucks carried bananas and processed food items.
Longakit added that 50 rebels attacked a military detachment in Kipolot, Palacapao at about the same time that their comrades blocked the highway at the barangay proper. No casualties were reported. (H. Marcos C. Mordeno)
