ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/07 February) – An attempt to bomb a gasoline depot n Isabela City, Basilan on Saturday, was foiled following the recovery and disruption of the improvised explosive device (IED), Supt. Albert Larubis, Isabela City police chief.
Larubis said the IED was recovered around 6:45 a.m. Saturday inside the compound of the Island Petroleum Corporation Depot in Barangay Tabuk, Isabela City. He said s a utility man noticed a plastic bag with tin can inside and immediately reported to the management.
Larubis was there was an attempt to bomb the depot since the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Demolition (EOD) personnel noted that a match stick attached to a time fuse had been lighted.
However, he said the time fuse failed to ignite to trigger explosion since they believed the flame extinguished after the explosive was tossed into the compound.
He said the EOD used water disruptor to disarm the explosive, which is an Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil type of bomb with attached non-electrical blasting cap and time fuse. (MindaNews)
