ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/09 January) – Damage to properties caused by fire decreased by P84 million in 2014 compared to the 2013 figure, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
Supt. Dominador Zabala Jr., BFP’s city fire marshal said P108 million worth of properties were destroyed in fire incidents last year, or lower by P84 million compared to the P192 million in 2013.
Zabala attributed the decrease in damage to the fact that only 99 fire incidents occurred in 2014 while 110 others happened in 2013.
He said public awareness due to BFP’s information and education campaign contributed to the decrease in fire incidents.[]
The campaign included fire safety seminars and fire drills that were conducted in schools and barangays.
But Zabala said four persons died in the 2014 fire incidents. Two others died in the 2013 fires.
He added 11 were injured in 2014 and 13 in 2013.[]
Zabala said the campaign this year will focus on fire prevention and will be conducted in different schools.[]
He said the campaign, which will start next week, will include fire exit drills, evacuation drills and fire prevention lectures. (MindaNews)
