ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 24 July) – The police, by chance, have rescued a 13-year-old girl and arrested her abductors late Tuesday in the municipality of Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, a police official said.
Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer-in-charge, said the victim, Mary Jane Tangcod, was rescued after her motorcycle-riding abductors accidentally bumped a parked motorcycle around 9:35 p.m. at Purok Talaba, Barangay Camanga, Dumalinao town.
Samuddin identified the arrested suspects as Geraldo Sajulga and Ramil Canaba. They were injured as a result of the accident.
Samuddin said Sajulga accidentally bumped a parked motorcycle as he and Canaba were bringing along with them the victim while traveling from Dumalinao for Tigbao town.
He said investigation revealed that the suspects seized the victim at the public market of Dumalinao.
He said the victim was intoxicated when rescued since the suspects forced her to drink liquor to prevent her from escaping.
Samuddin said the victim was supposed to be taken by the suspects to Barangay Begong, Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur.
The suspects are now detained and appropriate charges are set to be filed against them while the victim has reunited with her family, the police official said.
