ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/1 May) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has allocated P11 million for the implementation of 10 livelihood projects approved by the National Poverty Reduction Action Team (NPRAT) this year in Region IX under the grassroots participatory budgeting scheme.
Dr. Sitti Amina Jain, DTI regional officer-in-charge, said the projects will be implemented in the towns of Ramon Magsaysay and Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur; Salug, Sindangan, and Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte; and, Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Jain said that four of the 10 projects will be implemented in Ramon Magsasay, Zamboanga del Sur and these are bambocraft development, mini-oil mill, handicraft production, and one-town one-product store.
Kumalarang will receive two projects namely handicraft production and mat weaving.
A mini-oil mill will be built in Salug while a livelihood training on soap making will be held in Malangas.
For Sindangan and Piñan, the projects will be the computerization of business permits and licensing system.
Jain said the project proposals were submitted by the six local government units to the DTI in 2013 and were subsequently approved by NPRAT.
She encouraged the other local government units to avail of the DTI programs and services for funding under the grassroots participatory budgeting scheme. (MindaNews)
