COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/ 13 December)—Two policemen escorting the provincial treasurer of Maguindanao, Osmena Bandila, were hurt in an ambush Friday afternoon in Guindulungan town, a police official said.
Senior Supt. Rodelio Jocson, Maguindanao provincial director, said that several armed men fired on the vehicle of Bandila and his escorts in Barangay Macasampen at around 3 p.m. while they were on their way to Buluan town.
The police escorts fired back at the suspects armed with high-powered firearms, he said.
Jocson said Bandila’s group, believed to be carrying payroll money, came from Cotabato City, where the wounded policemen were brought back for treatment.
Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu condemned the incident and vowed to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter.
“I was informed by the treasurer that they were ambushed. Maybe the suspects thought they bring a huge amount of money. They’re not bringing payroll money”, he said.
Bandila was not hurt in the incident.
A Tamaraw FX believed to be used by the suspects was left in the crime scene.
Police and army personnel based nearby immediately responded to the area to run after the criminals.(Ferdinandh Cabrera/MindaNews)
