5.7-magnitude quake hits Mati

MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/04 Dec.) — A 5.7-magnitude quake of tectonic origin jolted Mati City in Davao Oriental at 7:58 a.

m. today, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor’s epicenter was located 57 km east of Mati and had a depth of 52 km, Phivolcs said.

The quake was also felt in Davao City, Davao del Sur, Agusan provinces, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, General Santos City and Sarangani.

Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said the quake was not strong enough to trigger a tsunami.

He, however, said mild aftershocks may occur. (MindaNews)
