DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/11 Nov) – Six policemen from this city found positive of using illegal drugs have been dismissed from service effective last Monday, the Police Regional Office-11 revealed.
Sacked were SPO1 Reymundo Alvarez, SPO1 Ferdinand Bernadas, SPO1 Wanito Tanud-tanud, PO3 Rodel Asupan, PO2 Zaldy Rom and PO1 Armando Vete, who were found to be positive of drug use during a random drug test in September conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
The order was signed by Chief Supt. Jaime H. Morente, regional police director.
But Supt. Jose Carumba, regional police information officer, said the six can still file their motion for reconsideration once they receive copies of the dismissal order, which will be delivered to them shortly.
“RD (referring to the regional director) is serious when it comes to illegal activities, like drugs. He will not tolerate it,” Carumba said. He added that the dismissal will serve as a warning to all police personnel who continue to disregard the rules.
Supt. Rene Aspera, of the Davao City Police Office, earlier said: “We are doing this to show to the public that we are serious in getting rid of law enforcers who are into illegal drugs.”
Mayor Sara Duterte made a similar move lately – firing eight employees also found positive of using illegal drugs during a random testing conducted by the PDEA.
Five of them were from the Traffic Management Center, and the rest from the local 911 Emergency Rescue Unit.
Duterte said the city government would not tolerate the use of illegal drugs among its employees. (MindaNews)
