Soldier wounded in Army-NPA clash in Davao del Norte

Santiago said that units of the battalion “responded to civilian reports on NPA locations” and had an encounter with about 10 guerrillas believed to belong to Guerrilla Front 33 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
He said the firefight in Barangay Mambing, New Corella at 2:25 pm Wednesday lasted for ten minutes.
The 3rd SF Battalion was conducting its “community service” operation when it was tipped by the civilians, Santiago said.
He added logging companies have complained of “rampant extortion activities of the NPA”.
The battalion commander, Lt. Col. Ferdinand Napuli said that the same guerrilla group ambushed three soldiers on their way to Barangay Magdum proper, in Tagum, Davao del Norte, on January 6.
