Ozamiz, Lhullier win opening games in Kadayawan

Ozamiz Cotta toppled Pacman Warriors, 93 – 77 in the first game of the double-header opener graced by City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who welcomed the five visiting teams.

The National Basketball Conference (NBC) titlist Ozamiz displayed a balance offense as five of its players scored in double figures led by shooting guard Jerry Cavan with 13 points including a three pointer at the start of the final period that marked the biggest lead of the ballgame 77 – 56.

Former pro's Marlon Basco canned 12, while Billy Bansil and Lou Gatumbato had 11 points, apiece. Forward Leo Bat-og made 10 markers.

Pacman led by Jetro Recustudio, who finished the game with 17 points, tried to rally in the pay off period, cutting down the deficit to 12, 72 – 84 but Ozamiz showed excellent composure to pull away with its first victory.

M.Lhuillier Kwarta Padala employed a sticky defense to crush North Cotabato Braves, 98 – 76 in the second game.

PBA's Sta Lucia Realtors bound Wody Enriquez and Mike Maniego led the charge for Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MBVA) champs with 17 points, apiece.

The Braves put up a good fight in the first half but the Cebuanos pulled away posting a 21-point lead, 54 – 33 at the end of the first half.Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
