At least three “liba-liba” boats were seized on Wednesday (19 Nov 2014) off Placer town in Surigao del Norte.[]
The seizure was conducted through joint efforts by the Philippine Navy and the Bureau of Fisheries Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Caraga.[]
Liba-liba, known internationally as “Danish Seine,” reportedly destroys coral reefs and has been banned locally since last year. At least 18 persons from the boats are now in the custody of BFAR-Caraga in Surigao City.[]
