COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/16 March) — A provincial prosecutor of Maguindanao is now in critical condition after two gunmen aboard a motorcycle shot him and his companion during a daring attack shortly before 4:00 p.m. yesterday.
Inspector Jaime Lapeña, city police sub-station 2 commander said the gunmen shot Provincial Prosecutor Akilali Balt while his pickup truck was caught in traffic along the corner of Sinsuat Avenue and Pansacala Street in this city.
Also hit was a companion of the prosecutor whom initial reports failed to identify.
Balt’s security escorts managed to return fire but failed to hit the attackers who sped away along the interiors of Pansacala Street.
Pursuing lawmen later recovered the gunmen’s motorcycle abandoned in a secluded section of same street.
Balt, who sustained a gunshot wound in the neck, and his companion have remained in critical condition at the Notre Dame Hospital here where they rushed after the incident. (Ferdinandh Cabrera/MindaNews)
