DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/16 April) — Independent Presidential candidate Nicanor Perlas sounded off concern over the many indications of failures in the preparation by the Commission on Elections, saying he would file a petition seeking the postponement of the 2010 synchronized, automated national and local elections for the next 90 days from schedule.
Perlas voiced this out ahead of May 10 “because of the election commission’s preparation failures”, he told the Paminaw Mindanao presidential forum here Friday at the Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC).
“The Comelec preparation is not up to speed in technology, people, and process,” Perlas told MindaNews after the forum.
He cited Comelec’s haste in training the teachers who will act as members of the Board of Elections Inspectors, the information technology people tasked to run the PCOS machines, and other preparations for election day.
“The danger of it is that they make it appear to be normal. It is really problematic,” he said.
He noted that already, eight of nine presidential aspirants have expressed concern about the elections. (Walter I. Balane / MindaNews)
