DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 14 April) — A low pressure area was spotted 575 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 4 a.m. on Good Friday, April 14, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmsospheric, Geophysical and Astronocmical Services Administration (PAGASA) in its daily weather forecast issued at 5 a.m. today said the LPA was estimated 575 km east of Hinatuan. At 4 p.m. Thursday, it was spotted at 845 km east of Hinatuan.
PAGASA said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Mindanao and the regions of Eastern and Central Visayas while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the East will prevail over Northern Luzon and coming from the east to northeast over Eastern Visayas. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast slight to moderate seas.
In its Weather Advisory 1 issued at 11 a.m. on April 13, PAGASA said the LPA was at 900 km esat of Hinatuan and was expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Southern Luzon and Northern Mindanao b weekend.
The Advisory also said it is possible for the LPA “to intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.” (MindaNews)
