Carabao milk boosts livelihood of farmers in North Cotabato
The Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) in Kabacan, North Cotabato said that its farmer-cooperatives have produced at least 165,000 liters of milk worth P265 million in gross sales.
This year, PCC-Kabacan is eyeing to supply milk that will feed 80,000 school children in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the Davao region.
PCC-Kabacan director Geoffrey Atok said its breeding center in the University of Southern Mindanao in Kabacan town has produced 5,000 genetically-improved carabaos since 2019.
The success spurred the local government of North Cotabato to buy 20 buffalos for dispersal to farmer-groups in the area.
Provincial Board Member Jonathan Tabara said the buffaloes can help improve the income of farmers.
