Davao court acquits Kidapawan broadcaster in murder of fellow mediaman
A Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Davao City has acquitted a radio broadcaster for the murder of a fellow media practitioner in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato in 2019.
Davao RTC Branch 16 Presiding Judge Emmanuel Carpio said the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Sotero “Jun” Jacolbe Jr. was responsible for the murder Eduardo “Ed” Dizon.
Dizon, a broadcaster of Brigada News FM in Kidapawan City, was heading home when he was ambushed by armed men, killing him instantly on July 10, 2019.
Police accused Jacolbe and two others identified as Dante Tabusares, coordinator of the KAPA Community Ministry International, and a certain Junell Jane Andagkit Poten for the murder.
Tabusares and Poten are still at large.
Police launch manhunt for cop’s killers
Police launched a manhunt for the killers of police intelligence officer Corporal Ricky Mendoza Gomez, who was gunned down while driving his motorcycle in General Santos City last Sunday night, March 10.
Colonel Nicomedes Olaivar Jr., General Santos City police director, said he coordinated with other police units in South Cotabato and Sarangani provinces to help in the investigation.
Olaivar said the victim, who was assigned in Carmen, North Cotabato, was in General Santos City to attend a basic police intelligence course at the police regional headquarters in Barangay Tambler.
Davao City provides free castration for dogs, cats
The City Government of Davao is giving free castration to stray dogs and cats to curb their population.
Dr. Maria Corazon Sepulveda, officer-in-charge of the City Veterinarian Office (CVO), said they also offer free anti-rabies vaccination to all dogs and cats.
Sepulveda said starting March 11, CVO teams will go to barangays offering these services in line with the observation of Rabies Awareness Month.
She said they will also conduct information campaign for responsible pet owners in the barangays.
