COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 9 January) – A Department of Education (DepEd) supervisor in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat escaped a slay try but his wife was injured after a gunman shot their sports utility vehicle (SUV) with an automatic handgun Monday afternoon.
Colonel Christopher Bermudez, Sultan Kudarat provincial police director, said Eric Balancio eluded death as the still unidentified gunman opened fire at the driver’s seat moments after the DepEd official disembark from it at 4:40 p.m.
Balancio is a board of director at the Central Isulan Teachers Employees and Retirees Multi-Purpose Cooperative and education program supervisor at DepEd Sultan Kudarat.
His wife Norilyn, a nurse, was slightly wounded by the shattered splinters of the glass window of their SUV, an Isuzu MUX, which was parked in front of the Isulan Central Elementary School along the national highway in Barangay Kalawag 2, Isulan.
Bermudez said the motive for the gun attack on the school official could possibly be work-related.
“Based on the initial statement of the victim, we will be looking at the work-related angle. But we are also getting more details from what were seen in the CCTV,” Bermudez said.
Bermudez said they will conduct a follow-up interview with the victims once they overcome the traumatic incident. (Ferdinandh Cabrera / MindaNews)
