DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 23 December)—A policeman here is facing a complaint for grave threats after he pointed his gun at a civilian before dawn on Wednesday, an official of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao said.
Major Catherine dela Rey, Police Regional Office-Davao spokesperson, said that the complaint against Master Sergeant Frederick Bryan L. Caburnay was already filed hours after the gun-pointing incident took place at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday.
She said that Caburnay is currently under the custody of the Tugbok Police Station.
Dela Rey said that based on initial investigation, the complainant, 44-year-old Reynaldo B. Salmorin, a resident of Barangay Tacunan, Tugbok District, approached Caburnay to give him aid as he noticed that the policeman was driving his vehicle erratically.
But Caburnay, however, alighted from his vehicle and suddenly pointed his service pistol at Salmorin, Dela Rey said.
“The police alighted from his vehicle and told [Salmorin] that he did not know him. Allegedly, he was drunk and then took out his gun. One of the concerned citizens was shocked because he threatened him with his gun,” she added.
Dela Rey said that concerned citizens immediately reported the incident to authorities, resulting to Caburnay’s arrest.
In a report released by the Davao City Police Office, authorities recovered from Caburnay his 9mm caliber Pietro Beretta pistol and one magazine loaded with 12 ammunitions. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
