KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 26 Sept) – An intelligence operative assigned at the regional office of the Philippine National Police in Region 12 sustained several bullet wounds when unidentified gunmen ambushed him in a village in Carmen, Cotabato province around 6 p.
m. Wednesday.
Capt. Orlito Patrona, deputy chief of police in Carmen town, identified the victim as Sgt. Abejay Dandan, member of the Regional Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office 12 (PRO-12).
Before his assignment at the intelligence division, he was assigned at the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEu) of PRO-12.
Patrona said the victim was driving his red Ford Ranger pickup truck on his way to Barangay Kibudtungan in Carmen town when waylaid by a group of armed men along Barangay Kitula-an, also in Carmen.
Despite the wounds he sustained in his head, arms, and shoulder, he managed to escape and sped his car back to the Poblacion area where he sought help from cops assigned at the Carmen municipal police station.
Immediately, Patrona said they rushed the victim to an undisclosed hospital in the province where he was placed in an intensive care unit.
Patrona said the victim was doing his usual intelligence gathering, surveillance, and monitoring in Carmen when the attack took place.
Patrona, however, has yet to determine what caused the attempt on Dandan’s life or if it was work-related, and those responsible for the crime.
The attack on a police officer was the second in Carmen this year.
The first incident took place last March when unidentified gunmen shot dead Corporal Reshmere Langurayan, member of the Carmen Police Station, in Barangay Manarapan, Carmen. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
