DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/03 May) – A total of 306 applicants were hired on the spot by local and overseas companies at the end of the two-day 2019 Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan, Job and Business Fair in Davao City, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) communications officer Eduardo P.
Monreal said on Thursday.
Of this number, Monreal said 229 were hired for local employment while 77 were hired for overseas jobs.
The job fair gathered a total of 50 local and 20 overseas companies offering a total of 4,682 jobs, he said.
He added the agency recorded 2,543 registered applicants, of whom 1,534 were qualified and 848 were still subject for follow-up interview.
Mario Jelloan, 45, of Braulio E. Dujali town in Davao Del Norte, arrived in the city to join the fair hoping to return to the Middle East where he worked as a mason for more than a year.
He said he needed to raise his income to provide for his family.
His two children are scholars in Far Eastern University and De La Salle University in Manila.
Jelloan’s wife is an elementary school teacher in their province.
The top 10 local jobs offered during the fair were 1,452 carpenters, 192 masons, 173 production crews, 140 customer service representative, 135 service crews, 134 sales associates/clerks, 117 drivers, 100 field collection officers, 86 mechanics and 62 electricians.
For overseas, the top 10 were 1,276 nurses, 591 cleaners, 267 teacher assistants, 266 waiters/waitresses, 200 female on-call cleaners, 157 sales associates, 125 welders, 120 service crews, 80 household service workers and 77 manicurists/pedicurists.
Aside from the job fair, Monreal said DOLE-11 released P4.
