Cardinal Quevedo warns vs scam using his name to solicit funds

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 06 April) – Cardinal Orlando Quevedo, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Cotabato on Saturday warned the public against falling prey to a scam using his name to solicit funds allegedly to pay for his hospital bills.

“Warning po. This is a scam. Galing daw sa akin,” Quevedo said of the text message purportedly coming from him, to raise funds for his alleged ‘triple heart (sic) bypass operation.

The message reads: “Hi.How are you? Tried calling. I am so sorry to disturb you.I am really having second thoughts of messaging you kay maulaw gyud ko (I am ashamed).[]

I just would like to personally ask for help for my hospital bill. I am at the moment scheduled for a triple heart bypass operation.[]
