KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 9 July) – Suspected communist guerillas shot dead in front of his wife and two children a former soldier in a hinterland village in Magpet, North Cotabato dawn on Saturday, police said.
Chief Insp. Jose Molina, chief of the Magpet municipal police station, identified the victim as Dominador Favian, 47, of Sitio Bialong, Barangay Binay.
Molina, quoting the victim’s wife Jocelyn, said at least 10 fully armed men forcibly entered the Favian household, all looking for Dominador, around 1 a.m. Saturday.
The victim was reportedly ordered to face the suspects while Jocelyn and the two children, aged 10 and 12, were told to lie on their stomachs.
The police officer said that after a few minutes, shots were fired and Jocelyn saw her husband’s body ooze with blood.
After the suspects sensed their target was already dead, they started to search the house, Molina added.
Jocelyn told Magpet PNP the armed men were looking for firearms allegedly being kept by her husband but found nothing.
It took the suspects almost two hours before they left the site, reports added.
Police had received reports that the NPAs were behind the killing but the group has issued no statement yet.
Favian’s murder came a day after the Army killed three NPA rebels in a firefight in Barangay Don Panaca, also in Magpet. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
