COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 6 June) – Classes in at least 23 schools in Maguindanao have been hampered by floods brought by torrential rains this week, Bai Meriam Kawit, Schools Division Superintendent of Maguindanao said Tuesday.
“Around 3,910 pupils and 103 teachers are affected as of latest monitoring today,” Kawit said in her report to the Department of Education-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao where officials discussed what actions to take.
She said that 11 of the 23 schools that were flooded have suspended classes while the rest are holding classes in the gymnasiums of their towns.
A low pressure area off Mindanao which later intensified into tropical depression “Domeng” brought heavy rains to parts of the island this week. (Ferdinandh B. Cabrera/MindaNews)
