DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 4 Dec) – Three minors died after an M203 grenade they found in a farm exploded when they threw it into a fire in Purok 9, Brgy. Daliaon Plantation, Toril here 4 p.m. Sunday.
Banana plantation worker Rocky Peler L. Alagenio, 40, discovered his two sons – Rain John, 15, and Algen, 13 – with their cousin Julio Leoberos Limposanan, 17, lying lifeless on the ground after the explosion, according to a report released by Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Monday.
Bodies of the victims were brought to Vila Funeral Homes in Meleod in Toril.
According to a report by TV Patrol, Toril Police Station Chief Insp. Jerome de Guzman said it remains unclear who possibly owned the M203 grenade but he suspected it could have been left behind either by the military or members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who engaged in armed clashes in the area the previous months.
“Both the military and the NPA use M203 grenade,” he said.
Authorities recovered a piece of unexploded M203 grenade, which they later turned over to the Explosive Unit of the DCPO. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
