KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 9 Nov) – Authorities in Carmen, North Cotabato have intensified their pursuit operations against the two suspects behind the killing last Wednesday of a soldier and the theft of the latter’s motorcycle.
The Carmen municipal police station identified the victim as PFC Restoven Baqueran, of Tuguegarao City assigned with the Training Division of the Army’s 602nd Infantry Brigade.
Reports said Baqueran was driving a Honda XR200cc motorcycle headed towards Poblacion in Carmen when the suspects, also onboard a black Kawasaki Rouser motorcycle, shot him twice.
The victim, reports added, tried to escape, leaving his motorcycle behind.
One of the suspects then grabbed the soldier’s motorbike and sped towards the west side of the municipality, along with another accomplice.
Reports said that Baqueran, who sustained two fatal wounds on his back and chest, died while being treated at the Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Amas complex, this city.
Baqueran expired around 12:10 a.m. Thursday, the Carmen PNP said.
Police later found out that the motorcycle was just borrowed by Baqueran from a certain Corporal Ian Penaranda, also of the 602IB. The stolen motorcycle bore engine number MD29E-5004011 and chassis number KCN00-98X-003862. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
