DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 05 Aug) — A magnitude 5.0 quake struck Bukidnon at 3:39 p.m. Saturday, seven hours after a magnitude 5.9 quake hit the southern part of Mindanao.
The quake’s epicenter, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) was 12 kilometers southwest of Valencia City in Bukidnon.
The quake registered Intensity VI in Valencia City, Intensity IV in Malaybalay City and Maramag, Bukidnon; Intensity III in Cagayan de Oro and Kidapawan cities; Quezon, Don Carlos, Manolo Fortich, Cabanlasan, Kibawe and San Fernando, Bukidnon; Gingoog and El Salvador cities and the towns of Lagonglong, Balingasag and Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.

Intensity II was felt in Kalilangan, Lantapan, Pangantucan and Damulog towns in Bukidnon; in Initao, Misamis Oriental, Iligan City and Lanao del Sur while Itensity I was felt in Mambajao, Camiguin.
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks were to be expected from the quake of tectonic origin.
Phivolcs recorded a Magnitude 4 aftershock at 4:16 p.m. which registered Intensity IV in Valencia City and Intensity II in Malaybalay City and Maramag town in Bukidnon.
Seven hours earlier, at 8:30 a.m., a magnitude 5.9 quake struck southern Mindanao, ts epicenter at 9 kilometers northwest of Malapatan in Sarangani province, Phivolcs said.
The quake registered Intensity V in Malapatan and Alabel in Sarangani and in General Santos City; Intensity IV in Digos City, Davao del Sur and Kiamba in Sarangani; Intensity III in Davao City and in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.
Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the quake of tectonic origin but aftershockes were to be expected. (MindaNews)
