KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 15 June) – A couple was found dead along the highway here early morning Thursday, a police official said.
Supt. Leo Ajero, city police director, identified the victims as Danilo Solis, 46, of Barangay Del Carmen, President Roxas, North Cotabato; and Jennylyn Bascon, 42, of Barangay Mua-an, this city.
Both sustained gunshot wounds on their heads and back, the city director said.
Around 3 a.m., based on reports reaching Ajero, the victims were heading towards Poblacion riding a motorcycle when waylaid by still unidentified gunmen along the highway in Barangay Birada.
The gunmen were also riding a motorbike.
Ajero said the suspects first shot Bascon who “literally flew” from the vehicle and landed on the cemented road after she was hit on her head.
Solis, according to the police chief, sped towards Barangay Birada but was also pursued by the suspects and shot on his head and back. He also died on the spot.
The bodies of the victims were found by bystanders three hours later, Ajero said.
He added they are digging deeper their probe on the motive behind the couple’s killing and as to those behind it.
“We’re looking at love triangle as the closest motive because both were married. However, we don’t stop there our investigations. There could be other reasons why they were silenced that we have to investigate further,” said Ajero.
The killing of Solis and Bascon were the fourth and fifth shooting incidents in the city since May this year.
Earlier, a van dispatcher and two K9 handlers of bomb sniffing dogs were victims of shooting by still unidentified suspects. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
