KORONADAL CITY (MindaNews / 28 April) – Around 3,000 motorcycle enthusiasts have confirmed to join this city’s historic bid on Saturday, April 29, to set new Guinness world records.
Judith Amido, Koronadal City information officer, said Friday such figure was based on registration records for the world record attempts for the “most number of motorcycle engines started simultaneously and motorcycle horns sounded simultaneously.”
The event, which is the highlight of the city’s ongoing 1st Motorcycle Festival, will be held from 5 to 8 a.m. at the city’s “roundball” or rotunda area.
Amido said around 1,500 “big bikers” or visiting members of the National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs in the Philippines (NFMCP) from various parts of the country have signified to join the Guinness bid.
NFCMCP, which is headed by City Mayor Peter Miguel, will hold its 23rd national convention here on Saturday.
The official said more than 1,000 local motorcycle owners have already enlisted through the registration desks at the city hall lobby, Rizal Park and the city’s three shopping malls.
Around 500 other participants have also registered online through the city government’s website, she said.
“We will still accommodate participants onsite so we’re very positive of reaching our 3,000 target,” Amido said.
She said they already conducted two dry runs in the last three days to properly set the conduct of the activity.
During the event, she said they will divide the participants into clusters of 50 members with one assigned steward.
Amido said the world record attempts will no longer be adjudicated by a representative from the Guinness World Records.
She said they will just document the event properly and submit them to Guinness for evaluation.
But she said Guinness representatives have been closely coordinating with the local government for the conduct of the activity.
The city government had paid around P850,000 to Guinness to facilitate the world record bid.
“They will be monitoring the activity via live streaming,” Amido said.
According to the Guinness website, the current world record for the most motorcycle engines started simultaneously is 1,446 and was achieved by Yamaha Motor Philippines in association with Ad Staunch Communication Network Inc.
It was held at the SM Mall of Asia Complex on June 2, 2014.
The record for the most motorcycle horns sounded simultaneously was also achieved in the same event with 1,425.
Organizers were able to mobilize a total of 1,208 motorcycles in a parade during the event and was recognized by Guinness for “the largest parade of Yamaha motorcycles.” (MindaNews)
