DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 17 June) – Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, son of the president-elect, was apprehended Friday morning in Bangkal here for violating the speed limit policy.
Duterte posted on his Facebook account his temporary operator’s permit (TOP) showing that he was driving at 57 kph, way beyond the 40 kph speed limit in Bangkal.
His post as of 9:12 p.m. has garnered 15,900 likes, 1,253 comments, and shared 5,456 times over.
“Giingnan 40 lang…. Pandamay ning ga dali na ka uli kay suko na imong kumander! 57 kph da dakpan tabla na ta tanan mao dapat di gyud mahadlok sa asawa basta makauli lang!”
(Loosely translates to: “Told you to stick to 40 kph…. It’s not easy when you’re rushing home because the wife is already mad! 57 kph, see? Caught! Now we’re all equals. That’s why you shouldn’t be afraid of your wife as long as you can go home.”)
Executive Order 39, which was issued in 2013, sets the speed limits for all kinds of motor vehicles within the territorial jurisdiction of the city.
“Notwithstanding vigorous implementation by appropriate law enforcement agencies of existing traffic laws, there has been an alarming steady increase in traffic accidents on the highways, thoroughfares, streets, and roads of Davao City primarily caused by over speeding and reckless driving, with motorists perennially ignoring lawful speed limits,” it said.
Under Section 4, violators “shall, if warranted, be subjected to arrest and their vehicle impounded without prejudice to the imposition of penalties and fines.”
