DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/26 March) — A man carrying some parts of an improvised explosive device (IED) was intercepted by authorities at the van checkpoint of Task Force (TF) Davao in Sirawan, Toril, Davao City at 6:45 p.m. on Good Friday.
The suspect was identified as Roy “Steve” Bulat-ag Moreno, 22, a resident of 2nd Block, SInsuat St., Kidapawan City.
Senior Insp. Milgrace Driz, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office said the suspect was arrested while he was travelling from Baracatan, Toril to Toril Proper, this city.
A report of Toril Police Station said Pfc. Salman Guiampaca, a member of TF Davao, said they were inspecting the bags of the passengers when they found Moreno’s contained an orange-colored rectangular device and other components suspected to be parts of IED.
Those IED components were two improvised “blasting machines” with eight pieces of batteries, one M26 fragmentation hand grenade, one improvised electric blasting cap, one improvised tester with a 9-volt battery and one black electrical tape.
The report said the suspect allegedly admitted that those were parts of an IED.
“Custodial debriefing is still conducted on the suspect as of this report and suspect is now detained at the Toril Police Station for proper disposition,” Driz said.
“This has been the result of intensified intelligence monitoring activity, support of the community and other law enforcement agencies. We double our effort on alertness and vigilance and our pro-active efforts, which paved the way for this positive result,” she said.
Police are preparing charges against the suspect for violation of Republic Act 9516 for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition or explosives.
The suspect will aslo be charge with violating the election gun ban under the Omnibus Election Code. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
