DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/16 October) — Supporters of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who wanted him to run for president next year had their hopes buoyed up a few hours before the deadline of submission of certificates of candidacy on Friday, after his daughter, former mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio posted on Instagram photos of her COC for mayor.
The younger Duterte, however, had not submitted her COC, fueling speculations on social media his father would finally join the presidential derby next year.
The photos, posted at around 1 p.m. Friday, had earned 7,455 likes as of 1:58 p.m.
Accompanying the photos was the caption “Digong, ghulat ko sa imoha (Digong,I’m waiting for you). To all my fellow Filipinos, you will make President, otherwise lagot kayo lahat sa akin. Tandaan niyo ang araw na ito. Wala kami pera, wala kami makinarya. #justDUit #Duterte2016 Honor they father and mother.”
Duterte-Carpio, who was mayor from 2010 to 2013, was urged by father to succeed him, as the latter was planning to retire from politics.
But the elder Duterte filed his COC for mayor on Thursday afternoon after Sara declined the offer.
Her brother Paolo has filed his COC for reelection as vice mayor Friday morning through his chief of staff Atty. Alexis Lumbatan under Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod or Hugpong.
Last Wednesday, taking a cue from his daughter, several supporters of Duterte shaved their heads to encourage him to run for president.
Among them were City Councilors Al Ryan Alejandre and Danilo Dayanghirang and Public Safety and Security Command Center chief Frank Villaroman.
Duterte’s executive assistant Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, who was accompanied by City Administrator Melchor Quitain on Thursday afternoon, also posted on his Facebook a photo of him with his head getting shaved. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
