DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 9 July) – Some P15 million will be allocated for the Kadayawan Festival next month, an official said.
This year’s budget is P3-million higher compared to last year.
Speaking in today’s (Thursday) iSpeak Forum, City
Tourism Office (CTO) head Maria Felisa Marques said of the total budget, the city government has shouldered P5 million, which will be set aside for the cash prizes of the major and minor events, which will take place from August 17 to 23.
The City Tourism Office (CTO) is expecting a total of 120,000 tourists who will flock in droves here in time for the festival.
Among the event highlights include Hiyas sa Kadayawan, Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (street dancing competition), and Pamulak sa Kadayawan (floral float parade).
Bigger prizes await winners of Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan – P500,000 will go to the first place, P400,000 for the second, P300,000 for the third, P100,000 for the fourth, and P50,000 for the fifth place. There will also be P15,000 consolation prizes.
For the Pamulak (traditional), first placer will receive P500,000 while the second and third placers will receive P300,000 and 150,000, respectively. Non-winners will get P15,000 consolation prizes. While for Pamulak’s non-motorized category, the first placer will take home P150,000 while the second and third placers will get P75,000 and P50,000, respectively. Non-winners will take home P15,000 consolation prizes.
The Davao City Information Officer (CIO) will issue identification cards to bloggers, hobbyists, and media practitioners who will be covering the events. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
