ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/18 December) – A fishing boat sank early Thursday off Basilan province after seawater entered it through a hole on its wooden hull, an official said.
Lieutenant Senior Grade Jomark Angue, Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao spokesman, said all of the ill-fated fishing boat’s 25 crewmen were rescued separately.
Angue said the boat sank around 12:30 a.[]
m. Thursday near the two Sangbay Islands (Big Sangbay and Small Sangbay) in Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan.
He said the boat came from the Zamboanga Fish Port Complex in Barangay Sangali here bound for Basilan to fish.[]
He said 16 of the crewmen were immediately rescued “by the passing motorized bancas” while the remaining nine were rescued by coast guard personnel in a search and rescue operation hours later.[]
