SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews / 7 Oct) – A foreigner was found dead in a grassy portion of a village in this city Tuesday morning.
Police could not identify the male white foreigner but initial investigation showed that the victim, who was in his late 20s to early 30s, succumbed to a stab wound on his chest.
His body was found in Purok 4, Barangay Togbongon and police suspected he was already dead when brought to this place.
Scene of the Crime Operatives are now investigating the crime.
The news came only two days after two Swiss nationals were gunned down in a beach resort in Opol, Misamis Oriental. Robert Erich Loever, 67, and Baltazar Johann Erni, 78, were fired upon by three gunmen and both instantly died.
Also in Surigao City, a former Association of Barangay Council president, Contante M. Elumba of Barangay Togbongon, was shot dead in a cockpit arena in Barangay Luna last Saturday.
As of press time, the assailant is still unidentified and police seem to face a blank wall on the killing.
Former Surigao del Norte Governor Ace Barbers, who spoke to reporters Monday, said he is alarmed on the rising criminality in the city and in the province of Surigao del Norte.
He said every Surigaonon must do his share to combat crime. He lamented that the city is notorious in terms of drug arrests.
“Almost everyday there is a drug raid. It seems that there is peace and order breakdown. What’s happening here? This must be addressed by our leaders and by everyone of us,” he said.
