DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/28 October) – Police arrested a father his and son after they were implicated in a shooting incident in a videoke bar in Sasa, this city.
The suspects were identified as retired 2nd Lieutenant Rex Veñegas, 56, and his son Private First Class Mark Ryan Veñegas, 37, of the 25th Infantry Battalion of the 10th Infantry Division.
According to the Sasa Police Precinct, the suspects arrived at the Pink Spot videoke bar and confronted its owner Rolando Jumamoy, 42, a resident of Doña Salud, Sasa.
The three fought, and the elder Veñegas reportedly shot Jumamoy.
PO3 Rey Alburo of Sasa Police Precinct, who was having dinner together with his in-laws nearby responded to the scene and tried to disarm Rex Veñegas.
Alburo was hit in the left hand but was able to disarm the retired soldier. But the latter’s son allegedly shot the policeman in the chest.
Wintnesses rushed Alburo to the San Pedro Hospital and was said to be in critical condition while Rex Veñegas was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center(SPMC).
Jumamoy was declared dead on arrival by physicians at the SPMC, while the younger Veñegas was arrested in the hospital and detained at Police Station Four in Sasa.
Police pointed to love triangle as the possible motive of the incident. (MindaNews)
