ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 17 Sept) – Joint police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives have arrested two Philippine Marines in an anti-drug operation Monday in Zamboanga del Sur, a top police official reported Wednesday.
Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said the suspects were arrested in a drug buy-bust operation near a pension house around 5 p.m. Monday along Padpad Road, Barangay San Jose, Pagadian City.
Ecaldre identified them as Cpl. Ryan Depuno and PFC Silvano Jenisan, who are residents of Pagadian and Cagayan de Oro Cities, respectively.
Ecaldre said the buy-bust operation was carried out after the two suspects agreed to “sell and deliver” shabu to a PDEA agent who pretended to be a buyer.
He said the arresting team confiscated from the suspects’ possessions a caliber .45 pistol with 19 rounds of ammunition and 15 small -sized heat-sealed plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
He said the suspects are detained and a case for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act) is readied to be filed against them.
