ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/11 June) – The city government has allocated P1 million this year for cash rewards to informants who help the authorities in the fight against criminality, especially kidnapping.
Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the reward system aims to boost the morale of the informants, be they civilians, police or military.
Salazar disclosed there were already two candidates for said cash rewards from the city government.
She said the local police were documenting the informants and their accomplishments prior to the actual release of the reward money as required by auditing rules and regulations.
“We just need to make sure that the recipients of the cash reward have really accomplished the tasks,” she said.
The mayor said one of the two recipients of the reward provided information that led to the arrest of a suspect behind the kidnapping four years ago of a retired soldier in this city.
Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, Zamboanga City Police officer-in-charge, said the recipients gave information leading to the arrest of two most wanted persons here.
One of the two most wanted persons was arrested in Zamboanga Sibugay and the other in the “Triple SB” area in Zamboanga del Norte, according to Casimiro.
The “Triple SB” area refers to the adjoining municipalities of Sibuco, Sirawai, Siocon and Baliguian in Zamboanga del Norte.
It was not immediately known how much each of the two recipients will receive from the city government’s reward system.
“I don’t know how much (they will receive) but it is up to the city government to determine how much (will be given),” Casimiro said. (MindaNews)
