ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/28 June) – Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were captured following a firefight Friday in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, a military official said.
Capt. Franco Suelto, Army’s 1st Infantry Division Public Affairs officer-in-charge, identified the captured alleged NPA rebels as Wilfredo Dalumos, alias Ka Nick and Ka Tong-Tong, and Edgar Candilansa.
He said they were captured at Sitio Sagpang in Barangay Datagan, Guipos Zamboanga del Sur.
Suelto said the clash ensued when the troops were fired upon by the rebels while conducting security patrol.
The rest of the NPA rebels escaped.
He said the rebels who figured in the clash were believed to be involved in the ambush-slay of a soldier from the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion last June 14 in the neighboring town of San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. (MindaNews)
