DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/18 May) — A 10-wheeler truck from Bukidnon rammed into pedestrians and at least 14 vehicles along the national highway in Calinan district late Sunday afternoon, causing what the Davao City government said was a “multiple casualty incident vehicular accident.”
The city government’s Official Facebook Page had yet to post the number of dead and injured as of 11:45 p.m. although radio stations have been reporting varying two-digit figures.
PO2 Joseph Gumtang, radio operator of the Calinan Police Station told MindaNews that investigators were still out checking on hospitals to determine the exact number of persons who died or were injured.
Gumatang said truck driver Cirilo Dorado Icoy, who was detained at the Calinan police station, claimed he lost his brakes that led to the fatal accident near the NCCC shopping center in Calinan’s centro shortly before 6 p.m.
Gumtang said Icoy was brought to a government hospital for liquor and drugs test.
The city government has a speed limit of 60 kph along the highway in Calinan. (MindaNews)
